Maestro Mirian Khukhunaishvili

Mirian Khukhunaishvili, co-founder and music director of the Tbilisi Youth Orchestra, is an Iceland-based Georgian conductor. Praised by Christoph Eschenbach as a "tremendously gifted young conductor" after his debut with the Konzerthausorchester Berlin, the young Maestro is on his way to conquering the hearts of European orchestras.  

Mirian has led orchestras such as the Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Konzerthausorchester Berlin, Bamberger Symphoniker, Danish National Symphony Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, Iceland Symphony Orchestra, NFM Wrocław Philharmonic Orchestra, Korean Symphony Orchestra, Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, North Macedonian Philharmonic Orchestra, Gävle Symphony Orchestra, Polish Baltic Philharmonic Orchestra, Beethoven Academy Orchestra and all major Georgian orchestras and choirs. He has worked with world-renowned musicians, including Eliso Virsaladze, Paata Burchuladze, Stuart Skelton, George Gagnidze, Nino Machaidze, Valeriy Sokolov, Alexander Buzlov, Marie-Pierre Langlamet, Eduard Brunner, Anastasia Kobekina, Veriko Tchumburidze, Stathis Karapanos, and others.

Mirian participated in the Ammodo Conducting Masterclass with the Concertgebouw Orchestra and Fabio Luisi, Conductors' Academy with the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich and Paavo Järvi, where he won both the Prize of Paavo Järvi and international audience award and in Nordic Conductors' Forum with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra and Klaus Mäkelä. 

Since 2021, Mirian has been an invited faculty at the Iceland University of the Arts, where he teaches conducting and leads the university choir. In 2020, he earned his doctoral degree in conducting at the Academy of Music in Krakow.
